This year the La Paz Gold Cup Black and Blue Marlin Fishing Tournament will be held from October 2-5.  This is a relatively new tournament, yet if last year is any indicator it proves to be one of the biggest and best in La Paz.  This La Paz fishing tournament offers the biggest monetary prize for the area - $242,500 USD in cash prizes, benefits three local charities and even allows non-fisherman to participate.  First prize is $126,100 USD for a black and blue marlin with a 200 lb. minimum weight along with a 2008 pickup truck for landing a fish over 400 lbs.  Second to fifth place will also receive cash prizes.  There is also a catch and release category and daily jackpots offering up to $970 USD in prizes. 

The festival will be held from October 3-5 in La Paz’s Pueblo Marinero, the marina village at CostaBaja.  Activities will be centralized around the weigh station and are free to the public.  There will be food, kids activities and booths.  Afternoons bring the most excitement when the fishermen and women show up to weigh their daily catches.
