Rancho Buena Vista on Mexico’s Gorgeous East Cape

Rancho Buena Vista PoolJust forty-five minutes north of the international airport at San Jose del Cabo is Rancho Buena Vista - a charming Mexican sport fishing and vacation spot.  Steeped in rich history, this hidden paradise was once an attraction to celebrities such as Desi Arnez, John Wayne, and even President Eisenhower.  Located in Buena Vista and near Los Barriles, this area is often described as a natural East Cape paradise similar to what Cabo was like 20 years ago.  Here you can truly relax and enjoy everything nature has to offer.  Buena Vista is just as accessible as Cabo San Lucas via Highway One, but provides respite from the busy Cabo development scene.

Rancho Buena Vista has 60 charming rooms overlooking the gorgeous and inviting Sea of Cortez.  The popular Palapa Bar is the perfect place to enjoy afternoon sunsets.  This region is well known for its exceptional sport fishing.  Rancho Buena Vista fleet heads out for 8-10 hour days and usually gets started around 6:30am.  Each year thousands of marlin, sailfish, roosterfish, dolphin, tuna and more are brought in to the smiles of happy customers.  The resort will even fillet, freeze and pack your catch.

Just next door to Buena Vista is the charming sleepy village of Los Barriles.  Here you’ll find access to a supermarket and urgent care center as well as some excellent local bars and restaurants.  South of Rancho Buena Vista is the new development of La Capilla - the area’s first luxury gated seaside development.

Sport Fishing in Buena Vista and Los Barriles

April 18th, 2008 admin Posted in Buena Vista, Los Barriles, Sport Fishing 2 Comments »

Los Barriles and Buena Vista are located in the heart of the Los Cabos East Cape region.  This gentle and protected Sea of Cortez region provides calm waters rich with many types of aquatic life.  This is one of the Baja’s most attractive fishing destinations.  Here you’ll find 10 miles of accessible white sand beaches with a deep marine drop-off just a few miles off shore.  The drop-off is called the 100 fathom curve.  Fly fishing, deep sea fishing, panga fishing - there’s something for everyone.  You can easily take a panga boat to the inshore waters to anchor near rock reefs extending from the beach.  Many anchoring buoys placed by hotels and locals attract all kinds of fish.  Commercial shark buoys further out attract baitfish which bring in larger fish such as dorado, tuna and skipjack.  Beyond the curve, billfish, dorado and tuna feed on squid, mackerel, flying fish and sardina.

Available types of fish:

Shoreline: roosterfish, jacks, ladyfish, pargo, needlefish, cabrilla, triggerfish, pampano, sierra, and shaped cornetfish

Inshore: Dorado, rooster, bonita, skipjack, sierra, jacks, pompano, triggerfish and needlefish

Offshore: Marlin, sailfish, tuna, wahoo, and dorado.

This gorgeous region of the East Cape is reminiscent of the Mexico of old.  Come see what you’re missing!
